I can reveal that the cherry brandy I made in the summer is delicious and dangerously moreish. We really enjoyed the odd tipple over Christmas. Let’s hope for a good cherry season next year.
The drained cherries are not going to waste either. Some of them became truffles, some were simply dipped in melted chocolate and the rest are in the freezer waiting to be added to pavlovas and black forest gateau type desserts throughout the year.
Oh yes. My plum hooch however needs a little longer for the flavours to round out as it was made a little later. Maybe we should plan a drunken taste-in at about Easter?
That, Margaret, would be a wonderful way to spend (and perhaps lose) an evening.
😉
Ooo – the cherry brandy sounds lovely! And all the good things you can make with it.
Yes, I will be enjoying the frozen cherries for a while yet.
Stunning colour and I’m delighted that you are getting to enjoy the fruits of your labour. Once I get growign again, I hope to start making some flavorued drinks, in the past i’ve made flavoured vodka and sloe gin, but never cherry brandy. One to bookmark. Happy New Year Kath.
Oh yes Shaheen, if you can find a supply of cherries then you must.I have been browsing the River Cottage booze book and now have lots more ideas.
Hi Kath and a Happy New Year to you and yours! The Cherry Brandy looks delicious and I could really use some this minute to bring life back to my cold fingers sitting in my cold workroom next to the cold window! Time to flee to the aga-side warmth of the kitchen – with no brandy 🙁 xCathy
I am having one of those cold, sitting down at the computer days today. I won’t get the brandy out yet though. 😉
I’m so glad it was successful, but oh Kath, I so want some of your cherry brandy for my very own self. Mind you, I’m quite keen on the idea of truffles too 🙂
If you have or find a cherry tree Choc, you must make this, it is well worth the wait.
Hi Kath—the color of that brandy is gorgeous. I can imagine how delicious it must be. I made brandied cherries–sort of the opposite, sort of the same–this December and gave them to a friend to make special Manhattan cocktails. And, I kept some for myself, which turned into a lush dessert sauce for a chocolate torte. It was moreish, too!
Manhattan cocktails, now they sound good. I might have to try that with some of my frozen cherries.
Pleased the Cherry Brandy was successful and it looks a wonderful colour. I would love to use the cherries in truffles they would be so delicious.
Maggie, they are dangerously good.
So much to catch up on, I’d like a slice of cake, 4 pieces of candied peel, 3 pickled walnuts and a glass of cherry brandy please…not all at once though. So many lovely things happening in your kitchen, in which I wish I was sitting, next to the aga with a glass of this -Rx
I wish you were too x
